Personalized cancer care is the hallmark of SRMC’s Cancer Services featuring
inpatient chemotherapy, PROSEED and traditional Brachytherapy, radiotherapy,
inpatient care, continuing care and a support group. In January of 2003, the
American College of Surgeon’s Commission on Cancer accredited the Hospital’s
cancer program.
PROSEED Brachytherapy
Shasta Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer men another option for treating prostate cancer.
PROSEED Brachytherapy is a treatment for prostate cancer that is typically performed during a relatively brief outpatient procedure.
During one visit to the Hospital, radioactive “seeds” are directly placed where they are needed in the prostate. Prior to PROSEED,
three-step or pre-planned Brachytherapy was the norm. Traditional Brachytherapy relies on a treatment plan based on ultrasounds performed
prior to the procedure. However, the size of the prostate can change in the time between when the ultrasound is performed and the procedure.
Now, with real time planning, using advanced computers and ultrasound, PROSEED Brachytherapy enables the most accurate and effective
treatment possible. After the procedure, many patients feel well enough to return to work in a few days. To see if you are a candidate
for PROSEED Brachytherapy, please visit with your medical oncologist or urologist.
